Prior to joining EMA, Valerie worked as an assessment specialist at Pearson, where she helped develop assessment content for English Language Arts. Some of her responsibilities included writing and editing passages and items and working with multiple service groups to manage, track, and edit content throughout the development process. Before Pearson, Valerie worked as an assessment specialist for Educational Testing Service (ETS). While with ETS, she had lead roles for the development of teacher licensure tests for high school and middle school educators for both the PRAXIS program and the Texas Examinations of Educator Standards (TExES) program, as well as a lead role for eighth grade in a new, innovative K–12 assessment. Prior to ETS, Valerie spent ten years as an English Language Arts teacher—nine of which were in New Jersey and one in Texas. In this role, she taught middle and high school English Language Arts classes and wrote several new curriculum guides. Additionally, she spent one year as the English Language Arts Department head (grades 7–12) for the New Providence School District in New Jersey. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Rutgers and a Master of Arts in Teaching from The College of New Jersey.
